From above...

Fly like an eagle, a scenic flight over the Alptal. The Grosser Mythen (1898 m absl) o so small, houses like toy. When the thinking of last summer’s struggle, fight against the gravity walking over ridges - through ditches and complex landscape. From the Skye everything is much more ordered, simple and easy.

Nothing to see of the dry spell Switzerland sufferd of.

Big drought since beginning of the year
With a frequent high-pressure system since the beginning of the year led to a severe drought. From the first half of April brought the year 2011 in most regions of Switzerland in some cases significantly less than half the usual rainfall in the first four months. Thus while for example in the Valais and Engadine only about 15-30% of normal rainfall. But in western Switzerland and the Central Plateau of the German-speaking Switzerland, it was previously with 30-45% of the standard is very dry. Slightly better, though still far too dry, it looks at the northern Alps and the Ticino. This decreased between 40 and 60% of average rainfall.
A look at the rainfall records since the start of systematic measurements in 1864 shows that the year 2011 has been a few exceptions to the 10 driest years. In the Upper Engadine, at the station Sils-Maria, it was mid April even the driest start of the year. Rainfall totals first Jan. to 16th April from measurements with measurement beginning before 1900:

 Station                (driest period)       (2011)
 Basel (62.7 mm/?, 1921)       (131.6 mm/4 month > 10th place)
 Bern (67.7 mm/?,  1882) (97.9 mm/4 month5th)
 Zurich (69.0 mm/?,  1882) (106.7 mm/4 month, Rank 4)
 Lugano (46.8 mm/?,  1896) (177.3 mm/4 month,> 10th place)
 Geneva (63.8 mm/?, 1953)( 89.8 mm/4 month, Rank 8)
 Davos (80.2 mm/?,  1996) (94.3 mm/4 month, Rank 5)
 Sion (15.1 mm /?, 1883)( 47.2 mm/4 month,  Rank 6)
 Chur (64.0 mm/?,  1976) (73.0 mm/4 month,  Rank 7)
 Säntis (228.9 mm/?, 1885) (339.1 mm/4 month, rank 10)
 Engelberg (161.9 mm/?,  2010) (182.8 mm/4 month, Rank 3)

The oracle of Zürich 10 min. 56 sec.

Like the Oracle of Delphi, Zürich has its winter equal: the Böögg.
A snowpuppet who forcasts the meteorlogy for that summer.
This year the forcast is: The summer will be great.
What that means for us the hydrologist?
If the Böögg was rigth and what was great, we come back to that end of September…
