Driving through the snow in a ... Winter fieldwork part I

Our field season is over :(

Although the snowman see previous post melted several time new snow fell and made us not reach / remove the ISCO’s by car and prepare everything for wintertime. To speed up things we asked Werner from the Zwäcken hütte to help us with his snowmobile. From the movie you can see the result and why every professional hydrologist should have one ;) So a item on the Christmas wish list.

See movie yahoooooo:

Hey Mr. Snowman

Snowman in front of the Zwäcken hütte

After a day snowfall the raingauges throughout the catchement were full of snow. It covered the Isco's and sequential samplers. When the sun showed up the tipping buckets went crazy: click click click tip tip tip...

ho ho Merry - X-mas :S ??? First signs of winter...

Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen,

da kommst du geschneit;

Du kommst aus den Wolken,

dein Weg ist so weit.

Komm setz dich ans Fenster,

du lieblicher Stern;

malst Blumen und Blätter,

wir haben dich gern.

Schneeflöckchen, du deckst uns
die Blümelein zu,
dann schlafen sie sicher
in himmlischer Ruh'.

Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen,
komm zu uns ins Tal,

dann bau'n wir 'nen Schneemann
und werfen den Ball.

Yep the summer season is allmost over and it's time to prepare the stuff for the long winter sleep. Time to sit inside with a nice warm cup of coffee and cake and dreaming of the next fieldseason with the liquid part of precipitation. Here some pictures of the Alptal with the second snow cover which last more then one day.

First day and first time needed, snowcains on the car!
